Description (podcaster-provided):

I'm Jordan Myers and I'm a Master's student studying philosophy at the University of Houston. Plato's Cave is my attempt to exit... well, the cave. It's a philosophy podcast meant to help me guide my ascent to the real world, the truth, the place where life is worth living; and apparently that means giving up a regular job with good pay to pursue the security of the academic job market - the philosophy job market nonetheless. Join me on my journey as I cover philosophical works and speak with the best philosophical minds I can convince to come on the show!

"Plato's Cave" is a philosophy podcast hosted by Jordan Myers, a Master's student at the University of Houston. The show's aim is to explore philosophical works and topics, often by engaging in discussions with notable philosophers. The content spans a wide range of philosophical themes and concepts, offering listeners an in-depth look at both historical and contemporary issues in philosophy.

A recurring theme throughout the podcast is the exploration of emotions, specifically anger. Various episodes delve into the works of philosophers who analyze anger from multiple angles, such as its appropriateness, value, and connection to other emotional and moral concepts. Discussions often revolve around well-known philosophical figures who have extensively written about these topics, including Martha Nussbaum and Seneca.

Another significant theme is moral responsibility and free will. The podcast frequently features episodes that discuss seminal papers and theories in this domain, examining different viewpoints and arguments. This includes debates on compatibilism versus incompatibilism, and the implications of determinism and agency for moral responsibility.

The exploration of political philosophy is another focus area, with several episodes dedicated to key texts and concepts. These discussions cover foundational documents like the Declaration of the Rights of Man and influential works by philosophers such as Karl Marx and Isaiah Berlin. Topics such as liberty, equality, and justice are examined in these contexts.

"Plato's Cave" also includes a substantial amount of content on existentialism, featuring critical discussions on the works of prominent existentialists like Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. These episodes often take a deep dive into specific texts, exploring themes of existential angst, humanism, and the absurd.

Overall, the podcast aims to traverse a broad spectrum of philosophical inquiry, making it a comprehensive resource for anyone interested in both historical and modern philosophical debates.
